Are you ready? Then we travel back to Ribe of the Viking Age.
In Ribe Roots - Children's Viking Village you can experience what it was like to live in Ribe more than 1,000 years ago.
Do you want to be craftsmen making beautiful glass beads, reindeer antler combs or bronze jewelry? Do you want to play as distant traders or viking father, mother and children? Or would you rather be dangerous warriors training for battle? The choice is yours.
Touch, feel, smell and play your way into history in Ribe Roots' authentic and sensuous version of Ribe in the 800s.
Dare to take the scary path?
There are two ways to get to Ribe Roots - Children's Viking Village.
If you take the first route, you arrive in the city as a traveler by ship and enter the bustling commercial street where all kinds of fun unfolds.
If you take the second and slightly more spooky path to Ribe Roots, you'll first enter the world of the gods, up through the darkness of Mimir's well. But watch out for Odin's ravens Hugin and Munin - they're watching you!
The story is hiding in play
Ribe Roots is made for play and sensuality, but history is never far away. The way the town was built and the houses, crafts and objects are all rooted in reality. The whole experience is based on archaeological finds from Ribe and our extensive knowledge of everyday life in the Viking Age - something you can learn even more about in the Viking Age exhibition.
Everything you find in Ribe Roots is inspired by Ribe's past and is made to be touched and played with, giving children a fun and sensory experience of history.
