Come back to the medieval metropolis

In the Middle Ages, Ribe flourished and became one of the kingdom's most important cities.

In 948, Ribe became the episcopal seat and the town developed a very rich church and monastic life. At the same time, the trade established by the Vikings around the year 700 was carried on by merchants, increasing Ribe's importance as a trading town.

The guided tour Medieval Ribe takes you through the history of the city from around 1100 until the Reformation in 1536. Along the way, you'll gain insight into how church, faith and trade shaped the life of the city. You'll also have the opportunity to learn more about some of our amazing archaeological finds that tell you about everything from religion and medicine to everyday life in medieval Ribe.
